​WMB (Warrior Marching Band) -- Drill camp is coming up on MONDAY!!!!!    We need each of you to be at this camp to learn our drill.    This year we are learning a pre-game set for one of our upcoming games.

Music camp went well -- thanks to all who attended.    Keep practicing and working on memorization.    We still have openings to fill in each section - if you know of anyone who is interested in joining -- invite them to join us on Monday or send me their contact info or have them contact Mr. Windsor.    Remind them, NO EXPERIENCE IS NEEDED!!!

The school year is fast approaching and I am looking forward to working with each of you.    Let's make this the "Best Year Ever" for the WMB and all Bands.

As we learn our music and concepts, we will build from "dot" to "dot" to improve our performances.   Striving for an "E.P.I.C." in our performance:

​Warriors!!   I hope you have enjoyed your time off after the parades and have been staying cool and hydrated!!   I wanted to give some information on our upcoming camps

MUSIC CAMP:  August 2nd and 3rd -- 7:30 - 9:30 am in the band room.  Music is posted on Google Classroom.    Please be looking it over PRIOR to camp.   We hope to have all songs learned and work on memorization as well!!

DRILL CAMP:  August 8th - 11 th -- 7:30 am - 12:30 pm.   Here is where we put the show on the field!   Goals are to get moves learned AND put music to the first 2 movements.    Remember on these days to have water with you!!   Follow Ricky's example of bringing a gallon a day.    Also, start preparing NOW for this camp by hydrating each day -- water over soda.   

MEMBERS:   We have openings in all sections, please encourage your friends to join us -- no experience is needed.    We are looking for a synth player and a drum set player.     If you have 9th grade friends (this upcoming school year 9th grade) if they are interested, have them contact Mr. Windsor.

I finally have the information about the 2022 Cherry Days Parade!!  Following is the schedule/itinerary for that event. -- If you are interested, you are welcome to join us at the Huntsville Parade (You can join us on the "Big Yellow Taxi - Bus).    Just let me know and I will send those details just to you

For the Cherry Days Parade, I have asked my son, Jared, to be teh contact at the start of the parade -- most of you know him and will be able to find him.   He will have drums and flags with him for those who need them.   We are entry #86, basically the end of the parade.   If you will meet on Mountain Road, I will attach link to this message, that is our line up area.   You can also look for Mr. Daniels as he will also be part of the School entry.   I will be bringing the band down from teh Valley to join you all for this parade.   Most likely, you may have to step off without us for a bit, at least we did last year.   If that is that case, I will be in contact with Mr. Daniels and one of my summer staff members to keep you informed.       At the end of this message will be a link to show the map of the parade route.    Here is the schedule:

9 am:   Meet at Mountain Road and 2600 N. (road 7-11 is on)   We will line up to the "SOUTH", again, Jared and Mr. Daniels will assist with that.   Enjoy time visiting with others who love to play!!
10 am:   Parade begins.   Now we wait more!!   Stay cool and hydrated -- not sure how that will go!
1130 am:   APPROXIMATE TIME:  parade will end.   We will march into the parking lot of Wendy's and Fizz to end our parade.   We will load drums/flags onto the bus and we will take to school

NOTE:   I may have enough extra band shirts to give you one.   Please email me your size by FRIDAY and I will let you know and I will bring it to the parade starting point.   If not, here is our uniform for parade:
Band shirt or BLACK or RED Shirt (Go Warriors), jean type shorts (be comfortable) and athletic shoes.  Sunglasses and Camelbaks are perfectly fine.

​Great work this week Warriors!     Music and marching has come together, now we work on consistency with the feet!   Quick shout out to last week's SECTION OF THE WEEK:  Trumpets!!

Parade went very well!    I have received many positive comments on your performance AND sound!!   Some of the comments have come from Band Directors across the West -- several friends of the WHS Bands have contacted me with their comments.

Keep up the great work as we move to the July 4th "Day of Parades!!"    We have the Huntsville Parade AND the N.O. Cherry Days Parade (with some Alumni!!) on that day.   I have not yet received the information for line up, etc from the parades but will be contacting them to get that so that I can share that with you.

As we move to the end of the parade season,  I want to remind each of that our Fall Show practices will begin in July (end of July).   We are looking to add as many as possible to this fun and exciting show - "VIRAL!!"    If you have questions or have friends who do, please have them contact Mr. Windsor at -- [email protected]

This show will be fun and exciting for both the performer and the audience.   Parts have been posted on Google Classroom for you to begin to practice.

Week 1 is in the books!!  We have hit the summer marching road on the right (actually, left) foot!!  This week the band has been working hard and has been learning the fundamentals of marching and starting our parade music.   Our new staff members and volunteers have been amazing - shout outs to Mr. Barmore, Andrew Haney, James Steele and Sarah Charles for their hard work with the students.   A special shout out to Jessica Ross for helping out with our new color guard members - she has been a great asset!!
 
Next week we will only practice on TUESDAY, June 14th  due to teacher training being held at WHS.   I am asking all band members to continue to work on their music as our first parade is JUNE 25th!!!
 
Band shirts are on the way, if you still need to pay for yours, $10.00 paid to the WHS Bookkeeper will take care of it.
 
We issued a challenge to the band on THURSDAY to invite their fellow bandmates, who have not come to the summer marching band, to come and see what we are all about -- if you haven't done so, please consider the request.   If there are any questions, please have students contact Mr. Windsor.

Gwen Stefani , Alanis Morissette, Halle Berry, and Tina Fey all played flute in high school marching band. Clarinetists include Jimmy Kimmel, Julia Roberts, Sara Evans, Steven Spielberg and Gloria Estefan. Saxophone was the high school instrument of choice for Norah Jones, Jennifer Garner and Lionel Richie. Steven Tyler, Samuel L. Jackson and Kesha played trumpet, while Nelly Furtado chose trombone. #9 Marching band requires discipline and dedication.
To work strenuous hours through tough conditions instills a mental fortitude and ethic that will serve you throughout your life.
#8 Marching bands are the best ‘teams’ around.
Teamwork is a necessity when you’re part of a marching band, no one gets left behind. When you work hard together, each contribute your important part, and trust each other marching forwards, backwards and every-which-way, there’s a camaraderie unlike any other. Plus, you automatically have a whole bunch of friends to share the experience (and commiserate about the scratchy uniforms) with.
#7 Marching band may just make you smarter.
The neurological benefits of playing music are well documented.
#6 Marching band provides automatic exercise.
No need to hit the gym from July through mid-November. You’ll be marching mile after mile carrying anywhere from a 15 oz. piccolo to a 40 lb. snare drum, controlling your breathing the entire way.
#5 Marching band is a crash course in time management.
Balancing school, homework and practice can be quite the challenge. But again, this is a skill that you’ll appreciate more and more as you get older. As the saying goes “early is on time, on-time is late.”
#4 Marching band teaches you to grow from adversity.
You can’t win every competition or knock-em-dead at every show. So, you take critical feedback, be it from judges or your director, and use it as fuel to make yourself better next time around.
#3 Marching band directors are awesome people to know.
This may come as a shock, but most marching band directors aren’t in it for the money. The men and women who take on the task are some of the most dedicated educators around, and their love of music and learning is infectious. It’s no small feat to take 50 to 150 diverse students and turn them into a well-oiled marching machine (and make sure they sound good doing it).
#2 Marching bands make you a better all-around musician.
After playing in 100-degree heat while marching in formation, sitting in concert band, zipping through Tchaikovsky’s 1812 seems like a walk in the park.
#1 Marching band camp for life!
The hours are long, the weather dicey, the tan lines wicked… but there’s no other way you’d want to spend your summer. Plus, you’ve already made a whole bunch of friends to start the school year with.
